Local Talent … Behind the scenes with Beate de Camp

The Talent:

Beate de Camp, 35

What do you do?

I am a Stylist, Founder and Creative Director of my Styling Agency Be Divine. I look after personal fashion styling and shopping as well as interior and commercial styling.

Why do you love your job?

My partner always asks me: ‘Did you bring a smile on your clients face today?’ It is very rewarding seeing my client’s confidence grow after a styling session.

Steps you took to develop yourself?

I started by taking an online course for Fashion Stylist. After that it is a lots of gaining experience and learning from your mistakes. I was always clear of my vision and worked towards goals, still am. Unfortunately I never had a mentor to guide me along the way. I listened to advice and ideas from people around me and adjusted them to my own business needs. You never stop learning and developing and my brain is always full of new ideas.

Who inspires you and who would you love to work with?

I get inspiration every day from things I see in the street, art, social media and travels. Everything inspires me.

I would love to meet Victoria Beckham. She is a great example that you can do anything and change people’s opinion of you. Love her style! I might send her an email to see if she wants to catch up while I am in New York.

A typical day for you …

The perfect morning is drinking my coffee while reading all my emails that arrived over night. Mainly from overseas designers and online shops. After breakfast and exercise it can be either meeting with clients to take them shopping or search for the perfect furniture, tiles or other items for interior clients. I love the variety of my job. No day is the same. Finishing the day with a home cooked meal and having a chat with my partner is perfect.

Favourite work/life moment so far?

I am also working on a big renovation in Greenslopes for a client. It has been a project that we started planning 2 years ago and it is happening this year. It has 5 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms each more unique than the other. We are keeping its heritage style and adding a European and modern twist to it. Can’t wait to see it finished.

Advice for those wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Hard work and more hard work, but work with passion.

Your message to the world:

Never give up and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. I certainly met many of those people along the way and you learn very quickly that you have to believe in your own ability to succeed.

Friday eve is best spent …. With my partner, great dinner and maybe a movie.

Favourite place for a cocktail … Don’t really have one but love going to the Riverbar kitchen, Eagle Street atm for a relaxed afternoon drink.

On Sundays I …. Try not to read my emails, go to the beach and watch old movies in the afternoon. Bake or cook if I feel inspired.

Monday morning mantra … plan my week ahead and start working off my ‘to do list’.
